Ruth is in Grade 11. Her real name is Chali in Oromo. It means "the best peoples/family in the world". Her mother changed her name to Ruth, like in the Bible. She is quite shy and used to have a hard time in school. But since then, she has made new friends. She is close to Arequ, and Arequ has helped her a lot with her studies. Now she is doing much better in school and is happier.

Ruth’s favorite thing about New Hope is being with her brothers and sisters and being with friends. She likes learning English and would like to become an engineer someday. Now, she has plans to become a makeup artist and designer. She is a good student.

Ruth came to New Hope when she was only 2 years old when her dad passed away and her mother had nothing to feed her. She stayed with her other brothers and sister but was too much for her mother, so her mother gave her up, and she has not seen her since then.
