Derartu started her 4th year in Hotel Management in January 2024 at Lion Tourism & Business College.

Derartu says she loves to draw and play basketball and likes to be happy. She would most like to be a designer when she gets older and enjoys art.

Derartu came to New Hope with her two sisters, Tigist and Mastu. They do not remember anything about how their parents died, only that they were living on the streets and had no hope before being taken into the orphanage. New Hope and Tomorrow Come Foundation gave them a place where they were safe and able to go to school.
