Derartu is in 12^th grade at EAC High School in Kuyera. She says she likes school. She also likes to play volleyball and enjoys Chemistry. Derartu loves to sing, and often leads singing for the worship services at night in the dorm, or on the Sabbath. Derartu says she wants to be a doctor.

Before coming to New Hope Orphanage at the age of 4, Derartu lived with her grandma where she slept on a dirt floor. They were very poor. She is now a beautiful young lady with a contagious smile, and a bubbly personality.
